[OUR CHARITABLE IMPACT JUNE 2016]
We had the privilege of hosting 2 major charity projects in the month of June. A volunteer street clean up event during the Whyte Avenue Pride Parade, and a Bar-Hop Squad event.
On June 4th we ran our volunteer street clean up event during the Whyte Avenue Pride Parade. We partnered with The Neighbour Centre, with all proceeds of the street cleaning going directly to the centre and all the amazing work they do for the homeless community within the city of Edmonton. It was such a fun and exciting way to bring hope and life to our city. Love, one piece of garbage at a time.
On June 24th, from 10:30pm-1am, we ran our monthly Bar-Hop Squad event on Whyte Avenue. We gave away over 200 cups of Coffee (provided by The Good Coffee Co.) to the major Bar/Club lines on Whyte Avenue. We had our biggest volunteer turnout ever for this monthly event, and because of this we were able to bring more smiles and more hope to more people than ever before. Love, one cup of coffee at a time.
[COMMUNITY IMPACT EVENTS]
We hosted 4 community events in the month of June. A Birthday celebration for Pastor Jan, a CONVO Sunday life group event, a Father’s Day celebration, and our very first Team Day!
On June 5th we celebrated Pastor Jan’s birthday! (AKA: our church momma) Our Pastors do so much for our church community so the least we can do is honour and celebrate them! We served cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, and organic fruit infused water. The whole church came together as one to party, and celebrate Pastor Jan. We love Pastor Jan! Keep being YOU!
In June, we also hosted our second ever CONVO Sunday. An event held one Sunday a month directed towards getting people into long lasting relationships with those around them. We had more than double the amount of people attend our life groups that headed out on Whyte Avenue after our Sunday service. They talked, laughed, and loved over food, coffee and good vibes. Together we are so much better!
Father’s Day was our biggest community event of the month of June. We believe that Dad’s play such a major role within the modern family and that they should never be seen as irrelevant. We celebrated our Dad’s with a special sermon, from our church Dad, Pastor Cal, that centred around being a Dad. We gave every Dad a special gift on their way out, and celebrated them with love, acceptance, and forgiveness.
On June 25th, we held our first ever Team Day. Team Day is a chance for the members in our church to get the vision, see the culture, and join the team. Everyone who attended got to hear our Pastors speak on the vision of our church and got to hear our Directors speak on the culture of our church. After hearing, they got to see every department in action, and had the chance to join a department that they were really interested in being apart of. We had 3 new members join our team and were serving the very next Sunday!
We held 4 Jesus-filled Weekend Celebrations in the month of June. Each with a different focus, idea, and life-changing message. We heard Pastor Cal & Pastor Jan preach individually & together in the month of June. People heard about Jesus for the first time and saw Jesus in a very new and life-changing way, that they maybe have never experienced before. We exist as a community in order to express the beauty of the Gospel, and to be able to do this every weekend, through discussion, art, and relationships is a beautiful thing; we will never take it for granted!
Without community, friendship, and relationship we are lost and tossed every which way the wind takes us, but together we are strong and immovable force. We are not a perfect church (not even close!) but we are a family, and we don’t think families should ever be perfect, because where’s the fun in that!? June was an amazing month filled with beauty, excitement and Jesus. We can’t wait to start next month and continue in loving people everywhere. We will never pretend to be something we are not, and will not apologize for our scandalous love that we choose to show. We are a church family of Urban Outfitter style specialist, University students, business owners, property maintenance workers, ex-addicts, addicts-in-rehab, industrial foreman, ex-cons, nurses, Starbucks baristas, operating room attendants, waitresses, but together, we are family. Together, we are Studio.Church.
