[NEW YEAR STATE OF MIND]
January was the start of something different at the STUDIO.CHURCH. We entered 2016 passionate to find a new direction as a church community. We were sick of the lethargy and, indifference that has plagued church culture all over Canada for the last 100+ years, and believed that it was time for us to find a fresh newness.
We needed to stop trying to be something we were not, and start being who we really were. It seemed like a daunting task, to just change everything, but when that change is just becoming who God has really created you to be, things just seem to fall into place.
[NEW THIS MONTH]
We started the framework of an new official governing body, and trained and appointed new Directors over almost every area of our church. We re-vamped, and in the end we came out more structured, less complacent, and more passionate to help people in need than ever before.
With this new organization and passion in place, we ran, full sprint, toward strengthening our church family through complete transparency, tangible vision, open communication. We also completely re-vamped our donation structure by implementing specific monthly fundraising goals that our church family could see and put their confidence in.
[OUR CHARITABLE IMPACT IN JANUARY]
Our fundraising goals were met within the first three weeks of this month. Which allowed us to be able to host 2 free community meals, which included a massive community breakfast. And a mass street event, where we provided 200+ cups of Hot Chocolate, on the coldest night of the month, to the many people who were lined up to get into the clubs and bars around our church building. We were also were able to host 5 weekend celebrations, and over the month we saw a 40% increase in attendance, and a 400% increase in the amount of first-time attendees.
Through these events combined, we were able to impact 500 people physically, emotionally, and spiritually. But the number 30 is a more important statistic for us, that was the number of homeless individuals we as church family were able to provide help and hope to this month.
We wish that our charitable impact as a church community was greater, but you have to start somewhere, and work, to best of your ability, with the resource God has given you. But we are just overcome with joy, in the fact, that we were able to at least impact one life for the better this month.
We will never be a perfect church community, but something beautiful happens when you can lay down your pride, stop caring what others think, and let The Creator God, add new colours to the core canvas of who you are. That's what we did as a church in the month of January, we stopped trying to compete, and let our compassion, charity, and acceptance speak for us. We have a long way to go, and we need a lot of improvement but this month was the start of something beautiful in our church community.
We are now onward to bringing more charitable help to our neighborhood, and to sharing the beauty of the Gospel to even more people in the month of February.
