[THE LOVE MONTH]
We entered February excited to love. It was the second month since the new changes that took place in January, and we were determined to trust God even more, pray even bigger prayers, and help even more people.
[OUR CHARITABLE IMPACT IN FEBRUARY]
Our charitable fundraising goal was met within the first 3 weeks of us presenting the goals to our church community. We were able to host 2 major charity projects this month: Cocoa At Noon: a street Hot Chocolate booth that took place on Saturday, February 20th, from 12pm-4pm. And Care-Package Sunday: a church wide, homeless care-package street event, that happened Sunday February 28th, after our weekend celebration.
Our Cocoa-At-Noon event brought much needed smiles & warmth, to many people, on one of the coldest afternoons of the month. This project was a unique experience for us, as we were able to provide something that every passer-by could use urgently, and really enjoy. From shoppers, to hipsters, to the homeless, everyone smiles the same. Through this project we were able to show love, one cup at a time.
Our Care-Package-Sunday was our most anticipated charity project of the month. We designed this project around our Sunday morning celebration, and made it something everyone could participate in. From kids, couples, to our senior-citizens, everyone was eager and excited to be the helping hands to those who could not help themselves. In each Care-Package we packed brand-new socks, a toothpaste and toothbrush, brand-new cold-weather accessories, lip-chap, a rain poncho, dried fruit, granola bars, bath and body soap, a to-go chicken and cracker box, re-usable water bottle, travel Kleenex packages, and all of this packed into a large waterproof bag. We than rushed out into the streets and searched the back-alleys as a church family, after our morning celebration, and found those in need of urgent help to give these packages to. Through this project we were able to show love, one care-package at a time.
This month we had the honour of hosting 5 separate community events: A Relationship Workshop that took place on February 14th (Valentines Day), from 11am-1pm, and 4 separate community meet-ups, that happened on February 3rd, 17th, 22nd, and 29t, from 7pm-8pm.
Our Relationship Workshop was one of the most unifying events we have ever experienced as a church family. We had speakers who communicated the steps, and hard work, it takes to maintain successful relationships, whether that relationship be a friendship, or something more intimate, like a marriage. All while pointing our relationship success back to Jesus' relationship with his followers, and God's relationship with humanity. We had, RETROFILE, a young local indie-pop band, play a live set for us during our cocktail-hour, where we served Duchess Bakery Valentines themed deserts.
Our 4 separate community meet-ups, were some of the most life-changing times for those who attended. We believe that according to the Bible, a church family is built on relationships. Small one-on-one's, or group discussions, that's church, that's where God molds us into something better. These small community meet-ups, is our DNA as a church, and we hope to one day have dozens of these groups operating weekly in every neighbourhood within our city. Stay tuned!
We held 4 weekend celebration events as a church family this month. During those celebrations we saw a 20% increase in overall attendance and a 70% increase in first-time attendees from last month.
We do not pretend to be something we are not, and will not apologize for our scandalous love that we choose to show. We are a church of Urban Outfitter style specialist, business owners, maintenance workers, ex-addicts, addicts-in-rehab, industrial foreman, ex-cons, nurses, Starbucks baristas, and so on, but together, we are family, together, we are Studio.Church.
Now onward to bringing more charitable help to our neighbourhood, and to sharing the beauty of the Gospel to even more people in the month of March.
Here's a calendar of our charity projects and community events for the month of March.
